Faqs + etiquette

Be Yourself. Feel Good. Do Yoga.

Welcome to yoga!

Welcome to KULE Yoga & Ayurveda and welcome to Yoga! We are honored to serve you and can’t wait to have you in class.

Etiquette for Yoga & Shared Space

Practice Yoga. Explore. Heal. Move. Study.

Welcome to KULE Yoga & Ayurveda and welcome to Yoga! We are honored to serve you. Yoga is for everyone and every body. Yoga goes WAY beyond the physical postures. It is clarity in the mind and connection with the soul. It is rooted in ancient philosophy (Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras among other texts) and serves as a holistic vedic science. We honor the lineage of Yoga as it came from India. What’s beautiful is applying time-tested techniques and ancient philosophy to modern day living. This is what we’re here to help you do.

Our teachers are knowledgeable, friendly and committed students themselves. There is support for the new student as well as the advanced practitioner. Our goal is creating an environment where you can be yourself, feel nourished and connect in friendship and sangha with others.

Tips and sacred space etiquette

You need to know

When you arrive, please come in quietly, and find a space your shoes/keys/phone and or bag.

Doors will open 10 minutes prior to the start of class, we suggest you arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the start of class to check in, get settled and take a deep breath. If it’s your very first time, allow the full 10 minutes.

Please silence your phone upon arrival and leave it outside of the practice space. Part of the magic of yoga is soothing that part of us that’s always on alert. Yay for opportunities to set it aside.

Observe the sacredness of the yoga practice space itself. Keep your voice low, keep the vibes elevated, and observe relaxation until class begins.

Come on an empty stomach, or allow at least 2-3 hours after your last meal before attending class.

Be safe and listen to your body. Please inform your teacher of any injuries or special health conditions that may affect your practice.

Bring your own yoga mat. If not, no worries, we have mats to lend (until you get your own), no charge. Please bring a towel if you perspire.

Please refrain from wearing strong fragrances and perfumes. Other students may be allergic and it helps to create a neutral environment for all. Scents matter.

Wear lightweight, moveable clothing that feels comfortable. Although they are stylish, you don’t need yoga clothes to practice yoga.

Lastly, let us help you find a class or offering that’s right for you. Email us at info@kuleyoga.com or ask your teacher what he/she may recommend.

Creating an Environment That Honors All.

Body Positivity / Use of Pronouns

We recognize that bodies manifest in all shapes and sizes and we aim to foster an environment which is inclusive and loving of all figures and abilities. We encourage each student to use their preferred pronouns. Additionally, we ask teachers and students to inquire which pronouns students prefer if not unknown.

Environmental Responsibility

We encourage our students and teachers to increase their mindfulness when it comes to plastic waste. Utilizing reusable water bottles and biodegradable products is highly urged while visiting KULE.

Financial Advantages

We are grateful for every person who is able to attend class, workshops, trainings and book Ayurvedic consultations. Some will be able to regularly expend a higher amount on offerings, while others may need to plan further ahead in order to join. Please remain conscious of this and make space for all financial scopes in your perspectives and conversations.

Honesty, Compensation, and Acceptance

We are offering and sharing Yoga and Ayurveda in a professional environment. Please be mindful of the teachers time regarding questions asked and time used for personal inquiries. Some offerings are free, most are not. Keep the inquiries on topic and please observe the class, workshop, training, or consultation as a sacred, learning experience. Show up on time, ready and willing to participate as offered by the teacher.

Not Neutral

KULE Yoga & Ayurveda is not neutral or apolitical with regard to justice and welfare of all students in our community. In this environment, we focus on offering the practice and study Yoga & Ayurveda to the community and support specialized teachers, organizations, and programs which foster the unmistakeable link of Social Justice AS Yoga. We recommend each student do his/hers/their own self-reflection with regard to privilege, language, and identify actionable anti-racist behavior.

Here are a list of organizations and teachers to follow: Michelle Johnson, Seane Corn and Off the Mat and Into the World, Diane Bondy, Nicole Cardoza and Anti Racism Daily , Kerri Kelly and Ctznwell, Susanna Barkataki and locally YWCA -Pasadena – Eliminating Racism and Empowering Women.

Make Space for All

Yoga class is a space for all. We never know what someone may be enduring in his/her/their own life, and what physical, emotional, or mental accommodations may be required. Please remain mindful and flexible in your willingness to welcome those who may necessitate more space, or may call for physical proximity to teachers or walls due to varying needs.
